Purchasing wine

We purchase matured wines from private collections on an ongoing basis – from individual bottles to entire collections covering several thousand bottles.

Should you have decided to sell your wines, we are your competent contact:

  • We will make you an offer at fair net prices!
  • There are no further costs such as reductions or lot fees.
  • We can assist with transport and with conducting the entire transaction; we are also personally available to help in the case of larger collections.

When dealing with us, in contrast to an auction house, you do not have to package the wines as a lot and you have no risk that the wines will not be sold and that they were transported unnecessarily. You do not have to pay lot fees and usually receive a price similar to that at an auction, after all the costs and fees have been deducted.

The procedure is as follows:

You contact us and just send us by fax or Email an informal list of the wines which are for sale.

We then make you a corresponding offer.

Should you agree to sell the wines subject to these conditions, we first send you, for the sake of good order, a written order.

You then have to decide with us whether you have sufficient packaging material to transport the wines. If not, we provide you with this at no charge. As soon as the wines are ready for shipment, we commission our forwarding agent or the package-delivery service to fetch the consignment. You then give the wines to the agent or service and have the collection receipted on a delivery note which is also supplied by us. The transport agent does not check the goods; it is therefore important that the wines are packed in the same way as you would expect wines to be delivered; i.e. the cases are firmly sealed and labelled with labels which we provide. The number of packages is also to be noted on the delivery note.

You can of course also bring the wines to us in person; in this case, we would request that you contact us briefly to arrange a time. It may also be possible for one of our employees to pick up the wines, depending on your location.

As soon as the wines reach our warehouse, we check the external condition of the bottles and ensure that the consignment is complete. It is important in this regard to inform us beforehand of any damage to labels (e.g. from damp storage) and excessively low fill levels of older bottles. Our minimum requirements for bottles which are 25 years old or more is an Into Neck fill level:

If we have received the consignment and it is in good and proper condition, we take delivery of the goods immediately and then send you an order cheque. Your name and address is on this cheque so you may have to prove your identity when submitting the cheque to be credited to your account. The reason for this is that we do not receive any invoice in the conventional sense for private purchases and this procedure enables us to prove at any time who the vendor and payment recipient of the wines was.
